Gap in area chart when coloring months < today

Hello all,

I am trying to create an area chart with 2 colors: color 1 for months < today and color 2 for the rest. However, the area chart has a gap:

How can I fix this? I don't want to use a bar chart (which would probably work), I want to use an area chart.
