Dear All,

I’m new to Tableau and I’m facing with the following problem.

I would like to Tableau the results of a factorial experiment. Suppose, for instance, that I have three design variables (A, B and C) and two possible levels for each variable, e.g.: a1/a2, b1/b2 and c1/c2; also, let O be the output variable (outcome of the experiment). So my data will look as follows (in csv format):

A,B,C,O

a1,b1,c1,o1

a1,b1,c2,o2

a1,b2,c1,o3

a1,b2,c2,o4

a2,b1,c1,o5

a2,b1,c2,o6

a2,b2,c1,o7

a2,b2,c2,o8

So far so good, but now what I would like to do is to define a baseline result -- for instance the outcome obtained when factor A = a1. This I would use to compare the other results to the baseline. In practice I’d like my new data to look as follows:

A,B,C,O,BL

a1,b1,c1,o1,o1

a1,b1,c2,o2,o2

a1,b2,c1,o3,o3

a1,b2,c2,o4,o4

a2,b1,c1,o5,o1

a2,b1,c2,o6,o2

a2,b2,c1,o7,o3

a2,b2,c2,o8,o4

where BL is the ‘baseline’ column.

Is there a way to do this in Tableau without having to compute the BL column externally?

    Hi Yuri,

Thank you very much - it's exactly what I needed!
