So, silly question....in NPSP, in opportunities, there is a related list called "Related Grants/Gifts".  Now, I am not asking for myself but a friend....I mean the name implies, that you can just create a new grant/gift record and have it be associated with an already existing grant/gift (which is different than matching gifts).  What are the primary use cases, etc?

And btw, does anyone else feel like that no matter how long they have been in this ecosystem or how "good" you are, that every once and a while, you feel like you know nothing and should know more than you do and feel like an idiot when you ask a question you feel you should know....again, just asking for a friend....  #Nonprofit #Fundrasing

@Anne-Marie Hendrickson could you set up a Recurring Donation for the annual pledge but somehow also set it up to be recognised as a grant..?

Otherwise, as @Andrew Ermon described, multiple payments against the same opportunity but when it comes to reporting you'd have to run it for payment dates rather than opportunity closed won/awarded dates for it to be captured.

We had a recent situation where a grant was awarded in the form of payments direct to suppliers, paying off invoices etc but we already had some deposits paid so they reimbursed us for that portion. It was a mix of In-Kind and Cash but I wanted to reflect that against the same total value of the Grant, I was hopeful this "Previous Grant Opportunity" field could be helpful to relate them. I think I found a workaround in the end, but not as seamless as I'd hoped!
