How can we make best use of A/B testing in Engagement Studio keeping in mind there is no direct way of doing so?

There's no easy / completely foolproof way to do this as the nature of Engagement Programs means they are dynamic and the audience can change regularly. Some options:

    * You could use the list split feature to randomly split your entry list and then use that as a Rule step in your Engagement Program to send one half of the audience one way and the other half a different way. Bear in mind, these will be static lists though so you can't guarantee it'll end up being exactly 50/50 if your entry list is dynamic.

    * Alternatively, you could create a custom field which numbers prospects either 1 or 2, but you'd need to manually populate that to ensure an even and random split. Then the field could be used in a Rule step.  However, depending on what you're testing and how your program is running, Engagement Studio might not be the best place to be doing A/B testing.

Because prospects flow through the journeys at different speeds and at different times, typically in lower volumes than a list send, the conditions aren't always equal and you can't accurately assume that the difference in your email was what caused the difference in result. And you would need to ensure that your volumes were high enough to get meaningful results.
