Email Campaign with Accounts

Since the current version doesn't support emailing to accounts attached to a campaign, has anyone found a creative way to simulate this.  I could use data import to import both accounts and related contacts (or primary contact) into the same campaign.  Trying to figure out how to track status when we receive a response without duplicating effort.  For accounts of a certain status, we'd like to target specific emails to the related contacts.  Would some sort of batch, on-demand/overnight job assist with this?
