Reporting on Contracts with Approval History

Hey all - I'm working with a client who is using Approval Processes in conjunction with Contracts. What we want is to be able to create a report of Contracts with Approval History to be able to see fields from the Contract records along with information about the status and dates of the approvals. Help & Training lead me to this: https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?id=approval_history_reports_fields.htm&language=en_US

So you can report on the approval table itself but you can't traverse to any field information from the related record in this case the Contract (other than the Name field).

Can anyone help here?

FYI - The standard report type called Contracts with Approvals does NOT work here. It's for a special (I think much older) form of approvals called Items to Approve which is built into the Contract object only. This isn't the same thing as an Approval Process. See why I'm confused?

    Yeah, that approach totally works. Wish there was a report type to handle it but this works almost as well.
