The Create New... tool in the sidebar is a quick way to create new records, but it has an odd behavior we just discovered. If you create a new Contact and Household with that system, then, while still on the new Contact record, run it again to create a new Contact, it adds that new contact to the household of the previous Contact.
This is not what we were expecting. I've recommended using the New button on the Contacts tab, but when there's a lot of data to enter, it's tempting to use that option to create new Contacts. It requires fewer clicks, and is more obvious to the user (it's always there in the sidebar, calling attention to itself.
Is this the expected behavior? I see that the user has the option to remove the Account that the routine connects to and it will create a new Account for the new Contact, but this gave us quite a bit of confusion when someone doing data entry ended up with a bunch of unrelated Contacts in the same household. Note I CAN see the value of this approach since it makes it easy to enter multiple Contacts into one Household.
Thanks yet again, Judi. I can see the logic and have been thinking about whether or not we want to disable that option. It's handy so long as we remember to "x" out the Account when we need to. But if we don't, it can be a pain in the rear.
