I was wondering if anybody is able to advise regarding a couple of issues we are having:

1. When doing data imports, we sometimes get the error message (related to NPSP triggers):

npsp.TDTM_Opportunity: execution of AfterInsert caused by: System.DmlException: Insert failed. First exception on row 0; first error: UNABLE_TO_LOCK_ROW, unable to obtain exclusive access to this record

  • This does not happen every time – so the workaround is to try the import again and hope that it won’t fail. This is mainly for file imports via Talend.
  • We raised a case for this, and as part of that we tried to run the NPSP health check which gave us another error:

2. Unable to run the NPSP health check – error:

Time limit exceeded

Your request exceeded the time limit for processing.

  • We were advised that this may be due to us having the same contact with multiple roles on opportunity contact roles (we have a scenario where someone may pay in their fundraising money themselves, in which case they have a primary role of donor and a soft credit role of fundraiser)
  •  It was also mentioned that this could be causing the first issue also – but we tried doing imports where we were not adding the same individual with multiple roles and still got the error message.
  •  The follow up we received was to use smaller batch sizes and follow best practices for BULK API. We are using SOAP API for these particular imports (rather than BULK API) with small batch sizes already.
  •  We've gone back on forth on this but still not been able to figure out:
    • What is causing the TDTM error
    • Why is the health check not running
    • Is there an issue if we are adding the same individual with 2 roles on an opportunity (and is this related to points a) and b) above)

Any help/feedback etc. very much appreciated – thanks!
