I would like to create a report that will display summarized list of objects that were updated grouped by user.  I've implemented update history on Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities but I'm not concerned acout individual fields being updated.  Just whether or not the user updated the record.  It's more part of an effort to indicate adoption and maintenance than for audit purposes.  TIA.

it's not really someting that Salesforce supports out of box, unless you purchase salesfroce shield's audit trail or event monitoring.

You report can show the current value of the 'modified by' field, however that gets overwritten with every udpate, so if two user updated the same record on the same day, you will only see the last one on your report!
