Auto Populate a Field When I click "New"

I have a custom object to track our Paid Time Off. There is a field on this object titled "Employee" which is a lookup field to contacts (as we created a custom record type for contacts of "resource" and created a record for each employee in our system that way). Anyway, I need a way to have the employee field auto populate with the contact name of the user who is trying to create a record on the PTO object. 

 

The use case is, when a user goes to the Paid Time Off object and clicks new the users contact record auto fills in the "Employee" field automatically when the "New" button is clicked. 

 

Is this even possbile ? Some help would be greatly appreciated!
