I want only three objects in picklist of related to field in task object . How to achieve that. I tried it using validation formula using whatid. But its not working. I want only contact, Customer and suppliers in my picklist.

This is not possible to do. I think you can write a validation rule to restrict the selection of certain values. Refer the answer for more details. https://success.salesforce.com/answers?id=90630000000i7hhAAA
