Getting following interesting challenge would like to know way of over come it.
We have salesforce CPQ with us. We use only lightning. So on the Contract Layout what we have done is Action Layout Editor created to update the SBQQ__RenewalQuoted__c field which will trigger the contract creation process.
The challenge that we are facing is once
Create Renewalclicked , user will get notified a message telling it is being created and hide auto matically but it takes around 20 , 40 seconds to get the contract actually created. During this time user might click multiple times as he does not see any visible indication that Renewal has created.
I have gone trought following article as well , seems to be this is also related to same.

If you are wanting to reduce this time, it might be hit and miss, as it sounds like it might be due to Lightning Caching.
