We'd like to change a custom field from a "text" field to a "numeric" field without changing or losing previous data. Is there a way to do this?

We'd like to change a custom field from a "text" field to a "numeric" field without changing or losing previous data.  Is there a way to do this?

    You can, you just need to export your data first. Make a report or use a data loader of your choice to export the data then change the field type and then I would upsert back into the field to ensure all the values are what you want them to be.
