We have two different sorts of campaigns, Standard (email campaigns) and Webinars so have created 2 Campaign and Campaign member record types.

The Webinar Campaign Member shows 'Registered' and 'Attended' tickboxes, which is for all those contacts in SF who registered/attended the webinar.  We also have names from a different database who registered/attended, entered as a number in two custom fields 'Total external Registrants' and 'Total external Attendees'.

I want to sum 'Total external Registrants' and number of Webinar Campaign members with 'Registered' ticked, but I can't work out how to exclude the Campaign members that attended.

So ideally I'm looking to say  'Total external Registrants' + Campaigns Members (where 'Registered' is ticked) = X.

How do I get there?

That's probably the simples way round it isn't it? I'll give that a go, thanks very much, I'm clearly over-complicating things!
