If you select Leads and Contacts and then "All records", what happens when you convert the Lead? Will the Contact have duplicate emails or will the email on the Lead recgonize the mathcing email on the Contact?

Also, what are the downfalls of setting up your email this way (if there are any?).

Thanks!

When you convert a lead, the lead enters a read only state in the lead table. If you navigate to the lead record it will be unavailable and you will have links pointing you to the contact and account.

The lead will also be removed from search results.

Upon conversion, the data from the lead is mapped to the account and contact, so the contact will have the lead email. Activity history will also be added to the contact. So any previous correspondence in the activity history on the lead will be on the contact

The association will pick up on all of this and should assign the email to the contact.

The only issue you may is if the email address already existed as another lead and/or contact. This is where you decide to attach to latest, newest records or leave in the unresolved inbox on your home page and you can manually decide.
