I have a unique request:

Client wants to have a product called Maintenance. This product should calulate as 15% of the rolled up total of all products added to the opportunity that are in 2 specific product families.

Example: 5 products added to opportunity.

Opp product A - Not included in maintenance calculation $75

Opp product B - Not included in maintenance calculation $25

Opp product C Maintenance - Needs to be calculated

Opp product D in Product Family 1 - $100

Opp product E in Product Family 2 - $50

The first two should not be included in the maintenance calculation. The last two should be totaled and then multiplied by 15% to calculate the maintenance cost.

So the maintenance opportunity product should calculate to $22.50 = ($100+$50 * 0.15)

This should be added to the price of the other products and roll up to opportunity amount. $272.50 = ($75 + $25 + $22.50 + $100 + $50)

Can this be done?

Rollups won't work for this, as you will need a 6th line item (from your scenario) that holds the cost. This additional line item will need to look at all the other line items and then do a calculation, which rollups won't do/support.

I believe you have two options.

    1. Look at AppExchange at the different product configration solutions. These will probably be overkill for what you need, though, but would make so you do not have to do your own development.

    2. Apex can do this. The user would need to create all the other line items. Then they would have to create the last line item in a seperate process that would calculate everything (or if this product will always exist the Apex can be a trigger that happens on a certain event: ie - Any product save.

For #2 you can even take it further with your own Visualforce page that users choose the products and the additional product happens in real-time to see what the price will be. Just think of a nice webform that updates while you type.

For #2 you can hire a consultant or consulting company to develop for you, if you do not have the resources.
