I'm using salesforce as my volunteer database.

I would like to forward a potential volunteer (contact) to a manager.

How do i do this:

- if they are part of salesforce?

- if they are not part of salesforce?

Thanks for your help!

You could create a new email template that has a link to the contact as well as key field. You could then use the "send email" button in the activities section to send an email to the manager whether or not they are in Salesforce. Users would click on "select template" to pick this template, fill the TO field and send the email.

Alternatively, you could automate this by creating a custom button. The text of the custom button could be something like "Send this record" and it could pull the proper template automatically so that you/rep don't have to do it manually each time. They would only have to enter the email address of the email recipient (unless it would always be the same, which could then be hardcoded in the URL).

You can do this by creating a custom link/button that includes the information you want to include in a URL (ex: template ID to use, CC email address, ...). "Hacking" the URL will allow you to prepopulate these fields. This is not scalable if you have 100 templates, but a good start:

    For example:

    /_ui/core/email/author/EmailAuthor?p3_lkid={WHAT_ID}&p4={CUSTOM_COPYTO_FIELD}&template_id=TEMPLATE_ID&rtype=003&retURL=%2F{RECORD_ID)
