I have a WR rule with a date field update of Today() but i only want it to update the field if it is blank

I have a picklist field that upon changing to Complete it updates a subsequent date field with todays date. I noticed that if i was to manually put in a date for this field upon saving it would be overwritten by the WR. Is there a way to make the field update only if the field is blank? Needing the formula for specify new field value (Currently just have Today() )

    Change your workflow rule to evaluate when a record is "created, and every time it’s edited." Then change your criteria formula to include ISBLANK(Date_Field__c), eg:

     

    ISPICKVAL(Picklist_Field__c,"Complete") && ISBLANK(Date_Field__c)
