We have Person Accounts enabled but we also use business development accounts (those that require an account name).  

 

When I select NEW to create a new contact through a custom object on my opportunity record it won't show me the account name - it defaults to the Person Account type record requiring last name only.

 

I've tried looking everywhere and can't seem to figure out where to adjust this setting.  Any ideas?

    When you click 'New', if your User record has a default Record Type selected, the new page for that record is displayed.  You can 'unset' your default record type if you want to be prompted for the record type to use for the new record.

     

    To check your default record type selections, go to My Settings (from the dropdown under your Name in the top right of the Salesforce window.  Then choose Display & Layout > Set Default Record Types.
