Can I change what shows up in a related list?

I created a custom object that is related to the accounts. The fields it chose to display appear to be at random. Is there anything I can do to change  this?

    Edit your Account page layout.  Scroll down to the related list of your custom object.

     

    Click the wrench on the related list and you'll be able to modify the fields that display and the order in which they appear.
