I have searched around and this seems to be the way to do it, however I have yet to find someone actually explaining how to do it. I have found others asking this same question but no responses to that.

Hi Melissa,
Can you pleae clarify your concern? Do you want to populate the Product Description into the Opportunity Product Line Description field? If so, you would need to start your workflow on the Opportunity Product object.
1. Object: Opportunity Product
2. Evaluation Criteria: created, and every time it's edited
3. Rule Criteria:
Product: Product Description | not equal to | <leave blank>
4. Add a new Field Update:
Field to Update: Line Description
5. Select ''Use a formula to set the new value' and enter the following:
Product2.Description
Save and Activate the Workflow.
Note that this will only work moving forward everytime you add an Opportunity Product into an Opportunity, or whenever you edit an Opportunity Product.
