I would like to know why is enabling "My Domain" a prerequisite to being able to access the custom on click java script buttons that one tries to convert.
It adds quite a bit to delay to the process especially if one is really only trying to do this for a few custom buttons that are important to convert to lightning and testing the same out. Please provide any insights into this aspect. Is there an alternate path so one does not need to turn on "My Domain".
Can anyone share their experience with turning on My Domain and what it entailed, did you run into any issues with that.

Yes, some JS buttons will require custom component solutions, for which you will need My Domain. There are a lot of ancillary benefits from enabling My Domain also: branded vanity URL that won't change if your org is moved to another instance, ability to use single sign-on and authentication, and better security generally.
