Tableau Next in Slack streamlines your workflow by letting you share and discuss data in real time. To start taking advantage of these capabilities, there are a few simple steps.
Before You Start
Check Requirements
First, be sure that you have one of the following Salesforce editions: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, or Developer. Then, make sure your Slack admin has enabled Slack for your org.
Next, make sure you have the correct permissions to connect Tableau Next with Slack. In this case, you need the Tableau Business User permission set.
Lastly, check your settings. The following Session Settings must be disabled by a Salesforce administrator:
- Lock sessions to the IP address from which they originated.
- Enforce login IP ranges on every request.
Get Started
Share Analytics
You can easily share visualizations and dashboards with your colleagues directly in Slack by using the Share action in Tableau Next or by pasting a link to the filtered view of the analytics.
Respect User Permissions and Security Policies
Each viewer of live analytics shared in Slack sees live data from their own perspective, based on their specific user permissions. Snapshots shared with the team are visible to everyone on the channel. Note that admins can disable snapshot sharing by removing user permissions.
Set Up the Integration for Live Analytics in Slack Channels, DMs, and Canvases
You can share live analytics in Slack messages, channels, and canvases, without having to install a special Slack app because the live analytics functionality uses a native integration with Slack.
To get started with Tableau Next in Slack, your Slack and Salesforce admin must enable the seamless authentication connection.

Connect Salesforce and Slack: This connection is for the Tableau Next integration with Slack.
- After Salesforce is connected to Slack, you must also enable the Collaborate with Slack and Tableau Next org preference within the Tableau Next administration settings.
