Create a CRM Analytics App for Net Zero Cloud

Safiya enabled CRM Analytics in her org, assigned users permission to access the analytics app, and confirmed that the app’s profile has its necessary field-level security. Now she’s ready to create her Net Zero Analytics app. 

Create a Net Zero Analytics App

Saifya uses the template that Net Zero Cloud provides to create her CRM Analytics app.

  1. Click App Launcher, and search for and select Analytics Studio.
    Tip: You can also open Analytics Studio from Setup: In the Quick Find box, search for and select Getting Started, under Analytics. Then, click Launch CRM Analytics.
  2. Click Create and then select App.

  1. In the Create a New App window, search for and select the Net Zero Analytics template, and then click Continue.
  2. Review the preview page, and then click Continue.
  3. After Analytics Studio confirms that your org meets the requirements to create the Net Zero Analytics app, click Looks good, next.
    If any checks fail, review the text in the info bubbles and exit the app creator. Fix the issues and try again.
  4. For security preferences, leave the default User Role Hierarchy.
  5. Click Looks good, next.
  6. Name your app and click Create.

Creating the app takes a few minutes. Safiya prepares herself a cup of matcha tea while she waits. When her tea is ready, so is the app. She sips her tea, notices the “Application Complete!” status, and refreshes the browser page to see her Net Zero Analytics app.

Share Your CRM Analytics Net Zero Analytics App

With the NTO Net Zero Analytics app up and running, it's time for Safiya to share it with her users.

  1. With your app open in CRM Analytics Studio, click Share .
  2. On the Give Access tab of the share window, under Invite others, add the names of users in your org. You can add people individually, by group, or by role.
  3. For each user, group, or role, select a level of access: Viewer, Editor, or Manager.
    • Viewers have the most basic level of access: They can simply view the dashboards, lenses, and datasets in the app. They can also see who else has access to the app.
    • Editors can view and make changes to dashboards, lenses, and datasets in the app.
    • Managers can view and edit the dashboards, lenses, and datasets in the app; change sharing settings; rename the app; and delete the app.
  1. Save your changes.

There are many ways to make the app and its dashboards available to people. Other tabs in the share window let you:

  • Export the current view to Quip.
  • Copy a link to the app to give to users to open in the Analytics tab of Lightning Experience or in Analytics Studio.
  • Download a PNG image of the selected asset.

To make her Net Zero Analytics app more readily available to NTO team members, Safiya decides to do two things: Add the dashboards to the Net Zero app home page, and add the Analytics tab to the Net Zero app.

Follow Safiya as she adds the dashboards to the Net Zero home page.

  1. In the Net Zero app, click the app navigation menu and select Home.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the page, click Setup and choose Edit Page.
  3. Drag the CRM Analytics Dashboard component onto the page canvas and position it as desired.
  4. In the properties panel, for Dashboard, select the dashboard you want to appear. For example, select Climate Action Dashboard.
  5. Specify other properties and add other dashboards as desired, and save your changes.
  6. If you’re prompted to Activate the page, assign it to the Net Zero app and to your auditor, manager, and admin profiles.
  7. Exit Lightning App Builder and verify that the page looks the way you want it to.

Now, Safiya gives users access to CRM Analytics as a tab they can open from the app navigation menu.

  1. From Setup, search for and then select App Manager.
  2. Click the action menu for Net Zero and select Edit.
  3. Click Navigation Items, and then add Analytics to Selected Items.
  4. Save your changes.

That’s it. NTO’s Net Zero Analytics app is created and available to NTO team members. Next, you'll learn how to keep the app up to date.

Why It’s Important to Keep Net Zero Analytics Up to Date

Now that Safiya has created a Net Zero Analytics app, everyone at NTO can stay on top of key performance indicators as the company works to reduce its carbon footprint. But the KPIs in the Net Zero Analytics app are only as good as the data is fresh. To ensure that the analytics stay up to date with current data, Safiya has one final task to complete: Create a recipe or dataflow to regularly integrate data from NTO’s Net Zero app into its Net Zero Analytics app.

Recipes and dataflows are two ways to prepare, transform, and manipulate data in CRM Analytics. Both can update data, which is Safiya's goal. However, recipes are good for Salesforce admins with little or no data integration experience, while dataflows are good for advanced CRM Analytics developers who prefer to work in a visual editor. Safiya wants to use a recipe—and happily, Net Zero Analytics includes one that she can customize.

Create a Recipe to Keep Your Net Zero Analytics Up to Date

Join Safiya as she sets up a recipe to keep NTO's Net Zero Analytics dashboards up to date.

  1. On the Home page of CRM Analytics Studio, click Data Manager.
  2. Select Recipes, then click the action menu for your new app and select Schedule.

We recommend that you use the time-based mode and update the data every day outside of normal business hours. For example, schedule the recipe for midnight in the time zone for the majority of your users.

  1. Make these selections.
    • For Schedule Mode, select Time-based.
    • For Schedule by, select Hour.
    • For Start at, select 12:00 am.
    • For Run every, select 24 hours.
    • Select every day of the week.
  1. Save your work.

Safiya's Net Zero Analytics app is ready for prime time. The Next Job column tells her when her new app will run next. Follow her example to keep your app up-to-date, too!
