PASSKEYS!

Greetings admins. I'm posting this to pass on my recent learning experience with passkeys in combination with a laptop switch & rebuild [more than once - ouch].

I had passkeys saved on my laptop: face/finger recognition.

Then I had a laptop crash & rebuild and subsequently unable to access multiple orgs.

Plenty of SF cases later & quick assistance to reconnect. All fixed up. [Agentforce case management grrrr.]

I now create new passkeys saved on Google Manager and/or on my mobile phone NOT on my laptop. I can now aaccess my orgs on a different laptop and loving the same Chrome & Google login on both (using a backup laptop while I get new laptop issue resolved).

Part of me worries about resorting to using Google to manage this level of security - isn't that in itself a risk? But what to do? Too painful using my phone for QR authenticaation each time. My phone is just another backup layer.

And while on the subject, we admins can't complain about the added inconvenience of passkeys because it's in the interest of improved security, however, I seem to be entering

3 passkey checks for every log in. Gone are the days of 1 x authenticator "ping-check". I read a help post saying if you login from https://login.salesforce.com/

you will incur less steps, but that's not an option for a custom domain login.

Anyone managing multiple orgs like me I bet would love $1.00 for every passkey check/click you do e v e r y d a y.

Any other tips on this hot topic would be amazing and likely very helpful to all admins.
