I have a workbook that is powered by a datasource (defined on the web) containing a fact table and its corresponding master tables, which is connected through a virtual connection.
When running the workbook on the web, it takes a long time to retrieve the data, even though the database queries themselves are fast. When executing the workbook or making changes to filters, the following message appears.
Similarly, when opening the workbook in Tableau Desktop, it takes a long time to load. Even during development, when we need to make any modifications (adding or removing a field, visual changes, etc.), the following message appears.
Previously, we have never encountered these messages in any development. Does it depend on the connection to the datasource on the server, or is it affected by the fact that the source is a virtual connection? Why is the connection to the server slowing down?

Both recommendations are not compatible with our development:
- Data extraction: This is not possible because we are working with a three-year history, and the user must interact with the year filter. This would require creating an extract based on the selected year, which is not possible. We work with millions of records per year, so extracting the year history would require a very large file or even exceed the maximum extraction time.
- 'Maths' at the database level: All possible calculations have been calculated at the table vs. view level, but there are percentage and progression calculations that cannot be calculated at the table level.
Thanks for the recommendations, but we cannot apply both changes. What we need to understand is why the Desktop displays the "Sending data to server" message for any modification, even if it doesn't require re-executing the query. Sometimes, we get this message when making visual changes or simply when modifying any format.
