Please HELP!
I am switching over a report to use a different dropin data source. However, after completing the switchover, when I try and remove the old data source, it says
"The <datasource> data source cannot be closed because of the following sheets are using it":
Sheet1,
Sheet2,
etc
I have tried EVERY possible combination of dropdowns, edit box etc to try and find HOW the data source is still being used but cannot for the life of me see where the source is still being used???? When I read the documentation in Tableau for removing data sources, it explicitly says you can remove a data source at any time - this is NOT true!
I have:
- Double checked the rows and columns used, there are not many
- Checked ALL the filters
- Checked all the "Marks"
- Checked all the "Folders"/ Tables
NOTHING references the data source!! The funny thing is I can actually REPLACE the data source with a different non sensical data source and then it starts to complain this one is used on a number of sheets.
It makes no sense, I need help - Or Tableau does :-0
Thanks,
RIchard
The docs are not wrong for Desktop, but they do appear to be wrong for Web Edit, which you are using. I will raise that with our documentation team.
There are several different things going on here that are confusing you.
1) You are in the web edit mode in your browser. The UI is different from Tableau Desktop.
2) A blend relates two different data sources - it's pretty much a left join with the Primary on the left and the Secondary on the right. You can't "promote" a data source from Secondary to Primary, all you can do is break the blend.
3) You can Replace a data source, which sounds like what you may want to do. Once you replace the old data source with the new one, you can close the old one. But you cannot do that from the Web Edit interface, only from Desktop.
If you have access to Tableau Desktop this will be easier.
