I'm not even sure how to best word this question so, here goes.

I'm trying to replicate a rather intricate and highly manual Excel data manipulation in Tableau but I'm struggling with the concept of how to tie everything together properly. In short, I am tracking the end dates for 8 specific tasks of a process for one of my teams. I won't get into the details of the Excel table too much, but, let's just say that what we want to see is movement for a given week, and that each task will likely get completed in varying weeks.

Attached is a view from the Excel Table as well as my current attempt at building this in Tableau. The problem I'm having is that I can only find a way to make the rows be attached to Task 1 (or any other Task), thus I'll only see items in Task 2 that were completed in Week 9 IF Task 1 was also completed that week, which will be far less common, as you can see in the screenshot.

So, my query is - how to get a single table that can show me the running counts if an item was completed THAT week and never move that count as subsequent tasks get completed? I know that's an odd ask for sure, but, I can't be the first person trying to do this feat. I hope....

Thank you,

Bob

How to create a rather intricateThe delta in the numbers in Task 1 are merely a matter of when the data was refreshed in Excel vs Tableau, so no concerns there. But as you can see, if I set the Week to be the week of Task 1, I'm missing 111 Task 2 that closed last week, 61 Task 3, 6 Task 4, 19 Task 6, and 32 Task 7 (haven't even gotten into pulling Task 8 into Tableau yet before I hit this frustation point).

    HI @Bob Berry ,

To effectively answer the query, please share a sample set of data and the calculations that you have used in Excel to arrive at the desired result.

    Thanks,

    Ajay
