Hi Everyone,

I am trying to create a bump cart that my users can filter by different salespeople.

The issue is when filtering, I am getting the wrong ranking for people.

I went over a solution I found ( and I get that my problem is with the way Tableau execute filters.

Unfortunately, I think the solution proposed in the link will not help me- once I remove the date from columns, it is not a bump chart any more...

I attached a workbook to hopefully help explain better:

Sheet 1- shows the profit and ranking by Sub-Category for Dec 2019. We can see that Phones, for example, ranked at number 4.

Sheet 2-  Here I am starting to build the bump chart but, we can see that I have a miss calculation since, in Dec 2019, phones are ranked at the 2nd place.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated

Thanks,

Yaron

    Hello Yaron,

In Tableau, as dimensional filters are calculated before table calculations - it means that filtering by salesperson will remove the data needed to properly calculate the ranking. This can be easily solved by instead of filtering the data, just hiding the data that is not needed.

In the attached workbook I created a bump chart of subcategories over time. You can "filter" to a specific category in the left but this actually uses a combination of:

    1) A parameter that includes all the categories that the end user can use to select which category they would like to zoom in

    2) A "Category" set that uses the parameter to materialize which category the user has selected.

When I then use the set in the viz, it will be broken down in "In" and "Out". I can hide (https://kb.tableau.com/articles/howto/hide-a-dimension-value-from-the-view ) the out components, therefore filtering the data I don't want to see whilst at the same time I can ask the ranking calculation to include the set, thereby still using that data that has been hidden.

    Cheers,

    Ivan
