In NPC orgs, be careful using Gift Default Soft Credits.  If you create a $500 Commitment with a custom schedule and use the Amount field to assign a $500 Default Soft Credit, and then create two Gift Transactions of $250 each, the recipient will get a $500 Soft Credit for each Transaction.  It's best to use the Percent field on a Default Soft Credit than the Amount field.
