Can we assign a permission set to a particular profile? As i can see only users are available to assign but what if I have 100s of users and it will be better to assign the set to a profile.

Salesforce has officially announced that permissions on profiles have an end-of-life date. Retirement is due in the Spring ‘26 release, so there is still plenty of time to properly plan how you’re going to implement these changes.

First of all, it is not the end of life of profiles. It is the end of life of permissions on profiles. There is a big difference between them. Profiles will still exist, however, permissions will be available only on permission sets.

    What Will Remain on Profiles?

As mentioned before, profiles will still exist and every user must have a profile. Here are the configurations that will remain on profiles:

    • One-to-one relationships: Login Hours/IP Ranges
    • Defaults: Record Types/Apps
    • Page Layout Assignments: Since the future is App Builder/Dynamic Forms, Salesforce will not invest in bringing page layout assignment to permission sets.

What Will Be Available Only On Permission Sets?

These permissions will move into Permission Sets after the Spring ‘26 release:

    • User Permissions (System and App Permissions)
    • Object Permissions (Object Create, Read, Update, and Delete)
    • Field Permissions (Field-Level Security)
    • Tabs
    • Record types (Not defaults)
    • Apps (Not defaults)
    • Connected App Access
    • Apex Classes
    • Visualforce Pages
    • Custom Permissions

Make sure you use permission sets from now instead of Profiles
