I have created 2 custom objects for my app which are customers and earnings object. Customers has records of the customers and it has a custom field in it called as total amount . What is the way if I want to calculate (add ) all the amounts from customers records from total amount field on that particular date.
And on the Earnings object, I should be able to pull the data from customer object and display it on earnings object when I select that particular date.

It sounds like the field you are referencing is essentially the object ID/Name field which is a required field.
It sounds like you may also have the master / detail relationship backwards if that is the direction you are trying to role things up. Can one earnings record be related to multiple customer records? If so I believe that the Earnings object needs to be the master.
