Our organization heavily uses the Solution object. It is not Lightning ready and isn't on the road map. When I go to sandbox to see how it will work, it doesn't even show up. We use the solution object to track information we share with teachers about resources available to them. We also still use the self service portal that uses the solutions object.
Not having it available, means we can't move to Lightning. What are some alternatives I should consider given that I have limited funds and time to do a major custom change or data migration?
Yes you can use Knowledge in Communities - we've implemented it for a client. It's good if you need the detailed tagging etc.
Though if it's really a learning path you want, you might want to hold out for (safe hahbor) the MyTrailhead - I think this will be huge for creating learning content for orgs that they can deploy to their broader communities - depends on licensing too though.
