We have a field which allows sales users to enter their justification if approvals are required, but reps are often submitting quotes for approval without entering their reasons beforehand. This becomes an issue because that field is included in the email template, so even if they enter a reason after the fact it will still appear blank on that initial email.

This could be considered user error to some extent, but if you think through the recommended process that they would have to follow, it becomes a rather poor user experience:

  1. Click preview approval to see if approval is required
  2. If the preview shows that approval is required, return to quote
  3. Fill out reason field
  4. Submit for approval

The ideal process would be:

  1. Click submit for approval
  2. If approval is required, ask user for reason
  3. Submit for approval

This would be a much cleaner and less error prone experience. Is this possible?

Sorry, I'm not super familiar with advanced approvals!  Is it meeting any criteria to be submitted for approval?  Are they fields you can either calculate or evaluate on the record?
