How do I relate sales (that we will be bringing in from outside of Salesforce) to both a User and an Account?

I need some help!  Our company wants to be able to report on the Daily Sales of the organization (at the customer (Account) level and at the Individual Sales Rep (User) level.  Each Account in Salesforce is owned by a Sales Rep (User) but the owner of the Account isn't always the person who makes all the sales to that Account.

 

Example:

 

Sam Smith sold something to ABC Company

 

John Jones is the person primarily assigned to ABC Company (but shouldn't get credit for that particular sale)

 

Can a record in Salesforce be owned by a User that is different than the owner of the Account the sale is being assigned too?

 

I want to be able to run reports that say Sam Smith's sales for the year are this.  And ABC Company's sales for the year as this.

    How are you currently storing sales on accounts? Are they their own child record?

    Account->

       Sale 1

       Sale 2

     etc.
