Lookup Filters and Salesforce1

Question

We are running into an ongoing issue of lookup filters not applying on Salesforce1, but working fine on the desktop versions. I see this is a documented problem, but it appears there is a fix with the Winter 16 release and related lookups. I can't figure out how to create a related lookup though, it is blank under each object and the lookup is just under the field.

These are all custom objects and custom fields.

Does any workaround for this exist? We reallty need to simplify things for our guys in the field.
