Opportunity Report Grouped by Accounts with Close Dates displayed in cells, not columns

Question

Searching for a way to track retention and report out opportunities by account similar to the manner presented in the screenshot below. Is there a way to build a matrix style report to somehow group opportunities by account by their order of close date but displaying the close date in the cell results rather than record count? The problem is the close dates (days) span the entire length of the columns to display and becomes excessivley long. Grouping by anything other than by day will also not be an option.

A summary type report can work while grouping by accounts, close date and opportunity name (in that order), but need to have results displayed like that of the screenshot.

No, you can't do the in an off the shelf Report, the Date Values will be off to the right in the Details Section
