Help Write a Trigger

I have a related list on the case object called 'dispatch'. When a related dispatch is updated to a certain status I'm simply trying to post a case comment (or Chatter post) on the related case that reads that the dispatch was updated and what the new status is. Is this possible and can someone point me in the right direction?
