Hello all! Does anyone know how I can auto populate a custom field from the Opportunities object to the Contract object?

On our Opportunities object we have a custom field called Total Proposal Amount. I would like to have the amount in that field auto populate into a custom field on the Contract object called Total Contract Amount. Does any one have any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

    Thank you Akhil and Pritam for your quick responses!  I am afraid that I am totally lost on both solutions, I am a workflow newbie and have never worked at the schema level.

     

    Is there any way either of you could break it down to a basic level for me?  I also need this to automatically populate the Total Contract Amount field for all contracts past and current.
