We have a set of customers where the contacts are likely to move around a lot. We want to maintain the history on the original account but also be able to see the history against the contact at the new account.  That way we know that Company A was engaged in XYZ activity and we also know that Mr Smith, even though he is now at Company B, also got involved in XYZ activity whilst at Company A.

My inital thought was to make Mr Smith at Company A inactive by means of a custom field, then create a new contact against Company B. Using another custom field, I would put the link to the inactive contact record against the new contact record and vice versa. That way, when you looked at Company B, you would see Mr Smith, plus you would also see a link to a another record, so you'd know he'd moved. When you looked at Company A you'd see that Mr Smith was inactive but there would be a link to another record so you could see where he'd moved to.

Can anyone see any flaws in this? It would be maintained by an admin person, not the contact owner themself, so we could ensure there is a robust process in place.
