For large holding companies that have many divisions and subcompanies, we would like to notate it in our system. Should it be an attribute of the lead / account but we don't want it to be worked into the parent|child structure. Has anyone done this effectively?

    Hi Katie,

I am not sure why you would not want to use the parent child structure of account hierarchy which would help you to track all subdivisions under one account easily. You can also use out of the box reporting with it. The second option is to use common  account names and use a lookup field for the account under lead or account itself. For e.g, chase north america can be one division, chase delaware can be a child , chase nj can be another child. So you would use common account names and create a  custom lookup field called parent account and have it look up to chase which will be another account to itself.

Just curious, why you dont want to use the parent account and hierarchy model and how does it help your company?
