How to change lookup field from looking up contact type to looking up account

Right now, we have a field "Delivery Hospital" that currently looks up to Contact

we prefer enter hospitals as accounts.

How to change "Delivery Hospital" to look up to Accounts rather than Contact, without losing Historical data?

You can't re-direct an exiting Lookup field to a differnt object, you'll need to create a new Lookup field and point it to the other Object

Thank you for confirming. I was afraid of this. I think what I will do is create the new field and then use the data loader to move the data over and then delete the old field.
