Can search bar in header be hidden for specific profiles

In the Service Cloud Console, can the search bar in the header be hidden only for specific profiles and not at the org level? Is there a way to do it, either declartively or programatically?  Any help or pointers much appreciated.

    You can turn off Chatter completely or you can only prevent it within portals.
