Hello, my 1st post so please be gentle. :-)

I'm working on a Global SFDC implementation and have a question relating to lead to opportunity conversion.

A lot of leads for my firm will be generated from our existing external systems and loaded in to SFDC using the dataloader. For example: We'll identify from our ERP when a customer's existing equipment comes to renewal. We will load this in to SFDC as a lead with a pre-defined sales person assigned to upgrade/renew the customer's agreement.

We have added a custom field to the lead object called 'existing account' since this is known. This links the lead to the existing account record in Salesforce; the salesperson can review related opptys or account information prior to customer contact.

The problem: When the lead is converted to an opportunity, standard out of the box Salesforce will recommend the possible accounts the lead could belong to, there could be many to choose from as we deal with many multisite organizations, for example: Bank of Barcifax. Yet, we already know the account as it has been linked externally and referenced to on the lead opportunity.

Are there any workarounds to use the account relationship we already know?

We cannot rely on a sales person to choose from multiple accounts since they will invariably choose the 1st one which will result in opportunites being referenced to the wrong opportunity and a whole host of other problems.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thanks Pete.

A lot of our campaign / marketing activity is around segmenting customers and targeting offers for upsell and cross sell products. So whilst loading as opportunities is one solutuon where we can pre-qualify leads; most of our leads a 'luke warm' so we don't want to pollute our opportunity pool in this way.

I'm certian that this issue has come up before so interested to know if there is a simple solution / workaround.

    Cheers,
