My business works with preschools. I recently purchased and uploaded into SF.com a list of preschools in a certain geographic area. The list has 950 schools on it. Upon importing it into SF.com, it said I had created 833 new accounts. So my initial concern was what happened to approx. 120 of the preschools (accounts).
I reviewed the data on the list and in SF.com and here's what I found the problem to be. Here's an example of what the data on the list looks like:
ABC Preschool Newark, NJ Jane Smith
XYZ Preschool Parsippany, NJ Mary Doe
Kiddie Academy Denville, NJ Jenn Jones
Kiddie Academy Boonton, NJ Steph White
Kiddie Academy Mendham, NJ Fran Black
Little Sheep Dover, NJ Donna Brown
The preschools in the example above that have unique names.....they imported fine. The problem is with the schools named Kiddie Academy. SF.com is creating just 1 account named Kiddie Academy and putting all 3 contacts in that account. I need 3 accounts named Kiddie Academy each with their own location and own contact.
I'm sure this can be done. I'm just not sure how to do it.

How did you upload the data? Did you use the Import my Organizations Accounts and Contacts Wizard? If you did, which option did you select for matching criteria? If you selected
'Name and Site' and you left the Account.Site field blank that they would all be merged together (because they all "match")
I would delete all of them, update the Account.Site field as needed on your import file and reload the data
