Sharing Rule for Manager Groups

Using Manager Groups is it necessary to create a rule for each user to allow their manager to see their records and to ensure only their manager can see them.  Is it not possible to set 1 sharing rule that allows Manager A see all of his subordinates records  ?

    Hi

    The problem with the Role Hierarchy is that I do not want the Manager to see everyone’s records that are under them in the Hierarchy only the ones that report to them
