I need to be able to send an email on behalf of a client and have it send from a different address than my one on salesforce. I need to be able to select what email the mailout is sent from.

Unfortunately, you cannot effect what email address you send from using native Salesforce, other than physically changing your user profile email address, which is most likely not feasible.
You may want to investigate the appExchange for Apps that support this type of functionality.
