We want to see the list of products the Account has purchased, on the Account screen. Isn't this what Assests does?
I assumed that when an opportunity was won, that the opportunities Products then populated as Assests of the associated Account?
If this is not true, can it be customized?

I agree with your business flow: you winan Opportunity something with Products > Assets show up on the Account page as a related list
However it doesn't happen magically. You have to manually create the assest, associate the product and account (and make sure Assets are displayed on the Account page layout as a related list).
To automate it you might have a developer create an "Add Assett" button to the Opportunity Product - probably best place to automate it after you've won an Opportunity.
