task pop up reminders do not appear

we are setting tasks and reminders, although they appear on the home page they do not appear in the reminder pop up window as described in the training sessions

Make sure you have Enable Activity Reminders on Activity Settings. Go to Setup>App Setup>Customize>Activities>Activity Settings.
