Email Template Fields Not Available

Question

On my custom object I have a lookup field for a location. (i.e Hotel) on my HTML email template it only gives me the field name which then only pulls the "Hotel Name". There is other data such as the Hotel Street, City, State, Zip that I also want pulling into the email template from that one lookup field. How do I get these to appear (make them available) for me to select to pull into my email template?

Hey Stefanie, you cannot include cross object fields on an Email template. See idea below:

In order to populate fields from an object other than the ones on which the email alert resides, you will have to get those fields onto the main object either using Formula fields or a workflow rule/Process/Flow. Another option is to create a Visualforce template but that might require developer assistance.

Thanks - I went ahead and added the fields to the object. (It's definitely time consuming! but it works)
